A solar photovoltaic (PV) electricity generating facility, with a potential capacity of up to 500MW with a co-located battery storage facility is proposed by Kingsway Solar Ltd. This is due to be determined by the Secretary of State as a DCO. The application was formally submitted on 21 May 2026. The project is currently in the Acceptance period of the NSIP process. Once the pre-examination period has begun this page will be updated again with how local communities can get involved.
The proposed development is to be located within South Cambridgeshire to the southeast of Cambridge, between the A11, Balsham and West Wratting within the ward of Balsham. According to details provided by the Applicant, the proposal will cover up to 1,200 hectares across a number of parcels of land.
The first stage of non-statutory consultation took place in Autumn 2024, during which the Council formally responded [PDF, 0.2MB]. The Statutory Consultation ran from 17 September to 29 October 2025 during which the Council formally responded [PDF, 0.6MB].
Officers are actively engaging with the other host authorities Cambridgeshire County Council and East Cambridgeshire District Council on this project. Engagement will be facilitated through a Planning Performance Agreement (PPA) and will focus on key issues identified during the previous consultation stages.
